    2020-2021 School of Education and Human Services Undergraduate Tuition Award

    • Undergraduate students enrolled full time in the School of Education and Human Services
    • Minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA
    • Completed at least one semester at OU
    • Essay describing how the applicant has distinguished themselves academically by describing awards and honors received, involvement in the community, and professional objectives
    • Financial need may be considered



    Allen Gough III Memorial Scholarship

    • Undergraduate student enrolled in the Human Resource Development program
    • No essay required
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0
    • Student must demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA
    • Student must have junior or senior standing



    Aspiring Educator Student Teaching Scholarship

    • Undergraduate student majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education
    • Student will be student teaching in the next academic year (semester/s award will be applied)
    • Minimum GPA of a 2.8
    • Student must have 91 credits completed (senior standing) when scholarship is awarded



    Barbara and Allen Gough Endowed Scholarship in Human Resource Development

    • Undergraduate students enrolled in Human Resource Development program
    • Experienced an interruption of studies or a minimum of a two year delay 
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • Preference will be given to students with financial need



    Brady Youngblood Scholarship for Special Education

    • First-year graduate student studying in one of the degree programs focused on special education, or an undergraduate student with a preference of special education after taking the undegraduate course in special education
    • GPA of 3.5 or higher
    • An essay of 500 words or less on a particular topic such as career goals or the importance of service to the special education population



    Carol Carpenter Memorial Scholarship in Education

    • Undergraduate student majoring in education
    • Minimum cumulative GPA required for the educaiton program



    Dennis and Carlotta Pawley Endowed Undergraduate Student Lean Endowed Scholarship

    • Be an undergraduate student enrolled at least part time at Oakland University
    • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Be eligible under the guidelines within Oakland University Financial Aid
    • Submit a completed application form
    • Submit along with the application form one of the following lean-related materials: paper(s), individual or group project(s), presentation(s) or other material(s) developed by the applicant
    • If no such project exists, submit an essay of no less than 500 words detailing how your work relates to the development and practice of lean principles and practices and/or submit a paper demonstrating the intent to study lean and lean principles. Include the coursework that will support lean knowledge content and the career opportunities that support the lean skillset.
    • May submit recommendations from faculty. While recommendations are encouraged, they are not required to receive this award



    Dennis and Carlotta Pawley Graduate Student Lean Endowed Scholarship

    • Be currently enrolled at least part time as an Oakland University graduate student
    • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
    • Be eligible under the guidelines within Oakland University Financial Aid
    • Submit an application
    • Submit along with the application a paper suitable for publication describing the applicant’s research project or applied research project
    • And/or submit a paper embracing the theory and application of lean principles. The paper must include documentation of significant improvements in efficiency, profitability and lean business practices demonstrated through the student’s academic work, including coursework, internships or assistantships, research, presentations or dissertations
    • And/or submit a paper demonstrating the intent to study lean and lean principles. Include the coursework that will support lean knowledge content and the career opportunities that support the lean skillset



    George E. and Gerry Palmer Coon Graduate Endowment Scholarship in Writing Education

    • Graduate students pursing a degree in the Reading and Language Arts department
    • Currently enrolled in either "Teaching Writing in Elementary or Secondary Schools", "Authors and Illustrators Art and Craft", or their successor courses; or completing a graduate internship with either the Summer Writing Clinic or "Authors and Illustrators Art and Craft"; or pursuing a dissertation focused on writing education; or pursuing a major in writing within the Reading and Language Arts department



    George R. and Helen Klein Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    • Graduate students enrolled in the counseling program with a primary interest in substance-abuse counseling, education or treatment
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • Financial need may be considered



    Gina and Jeff Petherick Endowed Scholarship

    • Full or part-time undergraduate student with a declared major in Human Resource Development
    • Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0, as well as in coursework for the major
    • Essay detailing the applicant’s interest in his or her prospective career in the field of Human Resource Development, including insights into the importance of ethics, compassion and service to others.



    Harry Hahn Reading Endowment Award

    • Full or part-time doctoral student or part-time faculty members in the Department of Reading and Language Arts



    Jacqueline I. Lougheed Educational Leadership Endowed Scholarship

    • Graduate student enrolled in the Master of Education in Educational Leadership
    • Completed a minimum of 24 credit hours in the program
    • Minimum 3.3 GPA in the program
    • Submit two letters of recommendations from faculty members in the Department of Organizational Leadership
    • One letter of recommendation from an immediate supervisor or school principal at the applicant's place of employment
    • Submit essay at least 500 words outlining interest in the program



    Jacqueline I. Lougheed Masters Scholarship

    • Graduate student enrolled in the Master of Education in Educational Leadership
    • Completed a minimum of 24 credit hours in the program
    • Minimum 3.3 GPA in the program
    • Submit two letters of recommendations from faculty members 



    John and Marie Pino Endowed Scholarship for Teacher Education

    • Undergraduate student enrolled in the School of Education and Human Services
    • Declared major in elementary or secondary education
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0



    Keane / Demarest Endowed Scholarship for Berkley School District Students

    • A graduate of the Berkley School District
    • A full time undergraduate student or planning to be a full time undergraduate student at OU in the upcoming fall semester
    • Preference given to students planning to major in Elementary or Secondary education
    • Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher or an OU GPA of a 3.0 or higher
    • Has attended OU since freshman year or will start OU as a freshman (not a transfer student)



    Ken Morris Center for the Study of Labor and Work Endowed Scholarship

    • Declared minor in Employment Systems and Standards
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • 12 credit hours still to be completed before graduation
    • Submit two nominations from active labor union members
    • Submit essay detailing career goals and/or accomplishgments



    Larry Chunovich Legacy Endowed Scholarship

    • Undergraduate students enrolled in the secondary education program, who are also preparing for an endorsement in mathematics
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
    • Preference given for students from the Southfield Public Schools



    Lewis Pino Memorial Scholarship in Science Education

    • Student in elementary or secondary education with an endorsement in chemistry, physics, or integrated science
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0



    Louise A. Coallier Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    • Preference given to undergraduate students who graduated from a high school in the Chippewa Valley School District
    • Enrolled in the Elementary Education program and specializing in Language Arts, Mathematics, Modern, Languages, Integrated Science or Social Studies
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at Oakland University
    • Submit essay of at least 500 words about their interest in the program



    Luellen Ramey Humanistic Counseling Endowed Scholarship

    • Graduate student enrolled in the Department of Counseling, dedicated to pursuing a career in counseling with a humanistic approach
    • Minimum of 40 credits completed in the program



    Mary Joyce Pagano Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    • Undergraduate students enrolled in elementary or secondary education
    • Student teaching assignment in the Pontiac School District or other urban setting
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • Financial need is considered but not a requirement for this award



    Meemic Insurance Company Scholarship for Teacher Education

    • An undergraduate student majoring in Elementary Education or Secondary Education
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • Demonstrate financial need as defined by Oakland University's Office of Financial Aid



    Morgan Behen Endowed Memorial Scholarship for Exemplary Students in Elementary Education

    • Junior or senior class standing majoring in Elementary Education
    • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
    • Preference given to a student who has been personally affected by cancer
    • Preference given to a student who has a demonstrated passion for special education



    Nancy (Bloom) Stern Memorial Award in MAT - Reading Education

    • Graduate student pursing a degree in Reading and Language Arts
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students to read
    • An essay of 500 words or less describing what (or who) inspired you to want to teach children to read and also the importance of physical books in early childhood education



    Nancy Anderson Schmitz Endowed Scholarship for Teacher Education

    • Junior or senior class standing in the Elementary Education or S.T.E.P. programs
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • Demonstrated involvement and/or leadership in campus organizations or Oakland University activities
    • Submission of a written essay on the challenges and opportunities of teaching in today's society



    Patrick and Christie Scoggin Foundation Scholarship

    • Incoming full-time freshman who attended Rochester Adams, Avondale, Rochester, or Stoney Creek high schools
    • Minimum 3.3 cumulative high school GPA
    • Demonstrates finanical need
    • Demonstrates passion for a specific area of study or extracurricular interest



    Paul E. Morath Scholarship for Education Endowment

    • Freshman or sophomore enrolled in elementary education
    • Minimum cumulative GPA required for the education program



    Ron Cramer and W. Dorsey Hammond Reading Legacy Endowed Scholarship

    • Doctoral students enrolled in the Department of Reading and Language Arts
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • Student must be within the first seven years of their doctoral program



    SEHS Graduate Tuition Award

    • Part or full-time graduate student enrolled in a degree-seeking program in the School of Education and Human Services
    • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5
    • Completed at least one semester at OU



    SEHS Professors' Legacy Endowed Scholarship

    • Undergraduate or graduate student, including students pursuing their initial teaching certificate, enrolled in the School of Education and Human Services
    • Demonstrate a commitment to community service
    • Minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA for undergraduates, minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA for master's students, and minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA for doctoral students



    SEHS Undegraduate Tuition Award

    • Full-time undergraduate student in the School of Education and Human Services
    • minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8
    • Completed at least one semester at Oakland University
    • Financial need may be considered but is not required



    Settlemoir Dzwik Academic Leadership Endowed Scholarship

    • Doctoral students enrolled in the Department of Organizational Leadership in the School of Education and Human Services
    • Cognate in Higher Education
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0



    Sidney W. Graber Memorial Endowed Award

    • Student pursuing a graduate degree in Special Education in the Department of Human Development and Child Studies
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Preference is given to students who have completed 12 hours of graduate coursework
    • Consideration may be given for financial need



    Tapestry Scholarship for Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership (Ed. D) Students

    • Doctoral students enrolled in the Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership program. Preference given to students with a Lean Leadership Graduate certificate as their doctoral cognate.
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher



    The Edna Shapiro Memorial Scholarship

    • Undergraduate student enrolled in the Elementary Education program
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.8
    • A single head-of-household, as defined by IRS Tax Code or a married head-of-household, as defined by the IRS Tax Code
    • Have minor children by birth or adoption
    • Submit a written essay of 500-750 words describing how the applicant’s past experiences have shaped their personal and professional goals and why they have chosen the teaching profession.
    • Preference given to students who have junior or senior standing



    Update title to read: Toni S. and Kenneth Walters Student Literacy Endowment

    • Graduate student in the Department of Reading and Language Arts in the School of Education and Human Services or an undergraduate student studying
    • Preference given to students who have demonstrated service in the field of literacy at Oakland University or through a community service organization



    William '64 and Mary '65 Schwark Exemplary Students in Engineering and Education Endowed Scholarship

    • Undergraduate students pursuing a major in engineering or education
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
    • Demonstrate academic merit
    • Preference given to students who have demonstrated financial need
